Education For Life

A Montessori education is more than an educational method; it is also a philosophy of human development. This is in sharp contrast to other approaches in education, whether traditional or alternative.

The Montessori method of education was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori; the first woman in Italy to receive a medical diploma in 1896.

With her extensive medical training and using her observational skills as a research scientist, Dr. Montessori traveled the world to observe how children from different countries grow and develop. She concluded that, while cultures vary greatly, the basic stages of educational development are the same. What a child needs is a path to grow within the bounds of these stages of development.

Dr. Montessori designed materials not found in any other method of education and introduced them to children at the appropriate stages of each child’s development. Dr. Maria Montessori created this scientific developmental method of education so that children would not merely acquire facts but rather learn through experiences in their environment. In her view, the purpose of education was to prepare each child for life –to allow each individual to discover their innate potential and contribute to their society.

The Montessori method of education is practiced worldwide, using the exact same methods as was first developed by Dr. Montessori over 100 years ago. It continues to allow children to reach their potential while instilling a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
